Monday marked the last day for the Buffalo County Fair, and officials were pleased to announce that attendance was up over last year.
About 40,000 people attended the fair this year. That’s an increase from last year’s roughly 38,000 attendees.
Extremely high weekend temperatures has some worrying that fewer people would attend, but it didn't stop people from heading out and enjoying much of what the fair had to offer.
"It was extremely hot a couple of the days, especially Saturday. But we still had a wonderful attendance to the demo derby and the carnival as well. So people braved it for us; which we're glad," said Buffalo County Fair Marketing Director, Jenny Geirhan.
This year’s theme “Leave The Night On,” focused on getting people to come out during later hours, and many did as nighttime carnival attendance and concert sales were up.
Ticket sales and parking gates are the easiest way for officials to calculate the number of attendees for the fair. A regular gate count is difficult to do bbecauseof the way the fairgrounds are laid out.
