Authorities are searching for a suspect in a shooting that took place at a Lexington home early Wednesday morning.

The Lexington Police Department says they are searching for 25-year-old Jose Gabriel Covarrubias, who is accused of shooting at police as they arrived to investigate a disturbance call.

Officers say Covarrubias shot at a female who was fleeing the home located on the 500 block of Oregon Trail, as well as the patrol units and in the direction of a nearby home. The residence was hit and a young child was treated at Lexington Regional Health Center from injuries resulting from an apparent ricochet.

The arrest warrant for Covarrubias includes two counts of attempted first degree murder, two counts of use of a firearm to commit a felony and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Anyone with information on his location is asked to contact police immediately and warned to not make contact with Covarrubias.

Just last week Covarrubias was arrested for disturbing the peace at the same address. He was also charged with obstructing a police officer after attempting to escape his handcuffs.
