Kearney cancer patients get an extra boost from community members as they tackle the high cost of treatment.
Students from local high schools hosted the 6th annual Kearney Tackles Cancer fundraiser Friday night.
In the past five years, this event has helped raise over $160,000, helping more than 1,000 cancer patients through the treatment process.
"It's amazing feeling, especially when we get to meet the cancer patients that we help and just see how much it helps them, makes you feel great," said volunteer Megan Scheghroue. "It just shows we're in a community together and how much we can help each other. I think just to see everyone come together is really amazing!"
Friday night's event included a barbecue, face painting and silent auction.
Organizers say this event usually brings in $8,000.
