Preliminary July Unemployment Rate Continues Trend of Year-to-Year Decreases

Posted: Updated:

Nebraska's preliminary unemployment rate inched up a tenth of a point in July but remains below where it was at last year, according to the report released Friday by the Nebraska Department of Labor.

The report says Nebraska's preliminary unemployment rate for July rose to 3.6 percent, seasonally adjusted. Despite the slight climb from June's 3.5 percent, July's rate is four-tenths below the July 2013 unemployment rate of 4 percent.

Acting commissioner of labor John Albin says this marks 11 straight months of year-to-year decreases in the state's unemployment rate.

"The number of unemployed workers continued to decline on a year-to-year basis and the labor force held steady at more than 1 million workers," Albin said Friday.

Nebraska's unemployment rate also remains well below the preliminary national unemployment rate of 6.2 percent in July, which also rose a tenth of a point over June.
